7 most revealing things I learnt in 2014 so far

1. You can’t do everything. Hire people. Ask for help

I realised that we are more busy this year as compared to last year. Technology may assists us but we still have a lot more things to do.

Last month, I wanted to help expatriates and returning home Malaysians by compiling a list of International schools in Malaysia. I hired a virtual PA and she compiled me the list of International schools for me.

She managed a lot of small chores making phone calls, compile lists of products, price, etc. Delegate things you can delegate.

2. House rules

Since March, I’ve set house rules that I may be late for work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And I will be back early from work on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays mean half-day and Sundays are for family.

And flow of things are getting better when you have set yourself a things to follow. This will allow you to plan ahead.

3. Simple workout in the morning goes a long way

Since 2 weeks ago, I started to do a simple stretch my entire body in the morning. And my days are never the same.

I can feel the flow of blood through out my entire body instantly. As a result, I don’t feel like dragging myself to work. But looking forward to it.

4. 3R – Regret, reason, remedy

Reputation management. When you made a mistake, use the 3R rule. Regret about what happened, reason out and find ways to remedy.

5. Do it now if it takes less than 2 minutes

To be productive and effective, you need to prioritise. However, if something will need less than 2 minutes to complete, do it. That small motivation of getting things done goes a long way.

6. If you think your car is due for service, it is due for service

My car almost broke down last week. I have a gut feeling that it is due for major service (timing belt, alternator belt, air filter, oil filter, engine oil, power steering oil, coolant, etc).

I was right. As soon as I reached the workshop, my battery is dead. The alternator belt is not functioning well and trust me that you should trust your gut feeling.

7. Good water is very very very important

And lately, I feel even better day to day since I bought myself and my family a new water filter. I was little sceptical with water filter which business model relies on “servicing”.

I need something that work naturally. So, I bought Alkaway’s Ultrastream and now, I have good water everyday.

Free from chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals and bacteria. My vision is clear and to most important thing is that I know my family is getting the best water. When you get the basic things right, the rest will be easy.
